20/02/2012 - Alteva, Parallels partner on hosted VoIP service push

Unified communications vendor Altiva is partnering with Parallels, which is best known for its virtualization services, to provide customers access to a turn-key hosted VoIP white label solution.

Altiva, which recently was acquired by Warwick Valley Telephone Company (Nasdaq: WWVY), said the deal will mean Parallels will be able to offer hosted VoIP services in more than 125 countries.

"The Parallels community is already receptive to cloud-based communication solutions, especially with the growing demand for hosted PBX services at smaller businesses," said Louis Hayner, chief sales officer at Alteva. "Alteva's hosted VoIP services, delivered through Parallels Automation, will enable SMBs to continue to compete in their market by utilizing technologies from the cloud-something that they have been seeking for a long time."

The deal gives service providers another portfolio item to offer SMBs.

Parallels said its research indicates hosted PBX services worldwide are expected to grow 75 percent over the next three years.

11/01/2012 - WVT's Alteva adds MozyPro backup to UC product offerings

It's been a busy year for Alteva, the Philadelphia-based UC solutions specialist. In April its platform earned a "Product of the Year" award; in July, the cloud-based company was purchased by Warwick Valley Telephone Company (Nasdaq: WWVY) for $17 million.

On Wednesday, it announced it had added MozyPro, a secure online data backup solution, to its product offerings, giving customers an easy backup solution that can be set up quickly and that requires no additional hardware.

"With electronic data on the rise, many companies are transitioning to electronic filing, making automated backup of files crucial. In the event of a disaster, companies should not have to worry about losing critical business data," said Elizabeth Backus, product manager at Alteva. "Having one provider that offers a complete suite of cloud services eliminates the need to manage multiple vendors."

Alteva's portfolio of cloud services includes hosted VoIP, hosted Microsoft Communication Services (Microsoft Exchange, Share Point and OCS with voice integration), fixed mobile convergence, video and web conferencing, advanced voice applications for PCs, data connectivity and more.

In a similar deal last month, North Carolina-based North State Communications purchased IT and managed services provider DataChambers. North State is a provider of Internet, voice, wireless, data and advanced television services to businesses and consumers in the Piedmont Triad region. DataChambers specializes in electronic data storage, 24x7 managed information technology solutions and secure co-location services for mission-critical information technology infrastructure.

"The acquisition advances our strategy to diversify our business and revenue mix and will strengthen North State's efforts in becoming the preferred provider of business communications and data solutions across the Triad and beyond," Hayden McKenzie, chairman and CEO of North State, said at the time.

31/10/2011 - WVT gets regulatory nod to acquire Alteva; starts hiring

Warwick Valley Telephone's $17 million acquisition of cloud-based unified communications provider Alteva has gotten the OK to move forward from the New York State Public Service Commission, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and the New York State Telecommunications Association.

Those approvals mean the 100-year-old telco can integrate its business, USA Datanet, into Alteva, the largest enterprise hosted VoIP provider in the U.S. WVT said it expects the combined UC and hosted applications businesses of the two to bump its consolidated revenues by some 30 percent on an annual basis. The company said the acquisition "significantly strengthens" WVT's cloud communications platform, which includes leading unified communications and hosted applications for small, medium and large enterprise customers.

Philadelphia-based Alteva specializes in cloud-based UC solutions including VoIP phone systems and service, hosted Microsoft Communication Services, fixed mobile convergence and advanced voice applications for the desktop.

In July, when the acquisition was first announced, Duane W. Albro, WVT's president and chief executive, called the deal "an extraordinary acquisition that will significantly contribute to our strength and momentum in the marketplace."

In a statement today, he said: "We have begun transforming our business into a high-growth company that leverages a successful telecommunications legacy in pursuit of building a platform of higher-margin cloud communications services."

Albro said WVT would expand customer service operations in Warwick, retrain and redeploy employees and continue to add to its Warwick workforce to support continued customer growth.

"This reallocation of work is a critical step in alleviating the need to layoff many of WVT's union-represented workforces in our ILEC business because of the decline in local 'landline' telephone subscribers," he said. "At the same time, we have been experiencing continued demand for our unified communications services. We are proud to report that our transformation into a cloud communications company is progressing as planned. The result is that WVT is growing, and we are hiring!"

As we move to all-IP technology, there are a lot of moving parts involved in making our advanced communications systems work. Along with our advancements comes the need for analytics to monitor networks to deliver the best quality of service we can. Broadsoft's PacketSmart is one such solution to this problem and some companies like Alteva have deployed it to much success.

Companies don't like to admit when they've had network problems, but if they've got the right tools, disaster stories can turn into shiny reasons for customers to sign up for their networks.

A few weeks ago, Alteva customer, Benefit Consultants Group, was experiencing some issues on their network and Alteva deployed the PacketSmart solution to figure out the issue. They identified a problematic switch on the customer's local area network, fixed it, and now voice quality is back up to where they want it. Having an analytics system on hand made a painful problem go away quickly.

22/04/2010 - Alteva teams with Microsoft on hosted UC

Philadelphia-based unified communications solution provider Alteva announced today that it has joined in a partnership with Microsoft and Broadsoft to offer a hosted unified communications (UC) solution to small businesses. Alteva can now interconnect its hosted voice and messaging services with Microsoft Communication Services product suite, including Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint and Office Communications Server (OCS), for both its small business and enterprise customers.

Microsoft has been forming a number of partnerships to integrate its communications platform--striking deals with Comcast and Go Daddy as well--with Alteva being one of the main companies to provide hosted voice. Another interesting move on Alteva's part is the launch of a web store where organizations with less than 25 users can pick one of 4 UC bundles ranging from UC Complete bundle with HD voice going for $38 per user per month on the high end down to Alteva Desktop Communications Basic at $15 per user per month. Larger organizations don't have to miss out, but they have to call for custom pricing.

20/04/2010 - Cloud Communications Alliance seeks first nationwide HD voice network

The Cloud Communications Alliance has been formed by hosted IP-comm companies Alteva, Broadcore, Callis Communications, Consolidated Technologies Inc., IPFone, SimpleSignal, Stage 2 Networks and Telesphere. They collectively serve more than 110,000 business customers in the United States. Bringing a common set of standards to all alliance partners to insure interoperability, the alliance uses each member’s individual networks and systems to create a seamless, nationwide HD voice network while providing a common customer support structure and remote field technicians.

The Alliance will jointly deliver services directly to customers, taking advantage of the nationwide coverage provided by its established, regionally owned and operated service provider membership and using a common software platform provided by Broadsoft.

“The Cloud Communications Alliance is not just about voice-over-IP, hosted PBX or unified communications. We’re introducing an entirely new way to build, deploy and scale enterprise communications systems that provide HD voice services along with a platform of advanced apps and features that allow businesses to work in ways they never imagined,” CCA member and Alteva CEO Bill Bumbernick said in a release.

It's all about being local these days. Well, being a multinational corporation that looks local anyway. Luckily, IP communications is here to help. VoIP provider Alteva is offering Canadian companies the appearance of a local U.S. presence using a local number with a hosted VoIP solution.

"This has never been done on an enterprise level," said Mark Marquez, CIO at Alteva in a release. "The demand for international enterprise deployments is growing and we are ready to meet the needs of our multi location customers and expand the global reach of our VoIP and Unified Communications (UC) services worldwide. Alteva will offer porting capabilities to over 70 countries by the end of 2010."

The hosted VoIP solution will offer enterprises lower up front costs, flexibility, scalability and redundancy measures with live failover. The hosted solution also means easy automatic upgrades. The new offering reminds me in some ways of Verizon's recent announcement of their local calling solution for call centers of businesses that want to maintain a local presence.

01/06/2009 - Alteva expands FMC offering to any device

Alteva, an enterprise hosted VoIP provider, announced Alteva Anywhere, a fixed-mobile convergence offering the company said unifies personal settings across all of a user's fixed and mobile devices without any third-party components. Alteva Anywhere allows users to have one business number that reaches all selected devices simultaneously, to use various business features on any device, and to move calls among devices.

The service also does not require formal integration between service providers and the user's mobile network. It works with all phone types including IP desk phones, soft clients and PSTN devices, the company said, and it's available directly from Alteva or through resellers.
