05/10/2010 - MegaPath's Free Cisco Phone Promotion Removes Financial Barriers to VoIP Adoption
The
result of the MegaPath-Speakeasy-Covad merger and one of the nation’s largest end-to-end
communications networks, announced its limited-time
free Cisco SPA 303-3 IP phone promotion. New business customers who purchase unlimited
or global Hosted Voice calling plans and have a minimum of five lines will receive
IP phones featuring a high-resolution graphic display for each employee. This program
is part of the second phase of MegaPath’s post-merger integration, offering common
products, pricing and promotions across all three company websites.
Forecasts from ABI Research1 show that the VoIP market is set to double in size in the next five years, exceeding $20 billion by the year 2015. By offering free phones, MegaPath is removing the last barrier to VoIP adoption – upfront costs. Speakeasy successfully implemented a similar promotional program earlier this year, which resulted in an increase in new customer inquiries by more than 40 percent.
MegaPath has a long-standing relationship with Cisco, as the company has been providing Cisco-powered MPLS nationwide network-based solutions for more than 10 years. MegaPath is a Cisco Master Managed Service Provider with voice and VPN certifications and small business specialists.
In addition to offering free phones to new customers, MegaPath is enhancing the functionality of its Hosted Voice calling plans with new productivity-enhancing features for all voice customers. This includes features such as:
- Push to Talk: Point-to-point intercom functionality between two phones in the same group, which can be used with Instant Group Call to simulate paging functionality.
- N-Way Calling: Enables a user to add up to 15 total call participants.
- Hoteling: Allows a user to log in as a guest on a host phone and use it as they would their normal desk phone. All incoming calls are routed to the host phone, while all outbound calls appear to come from the user’s desk phone.
- Answer Confirmation: This enhancement to Simultaneous Ring and Sequential Ring allows a user to prevent callers from leaving voice messages on personal cell phones when using Find Me/Follow Me features.
MegaPath is also adding Instant Group Call, available for an additional fee, which allows users to instantly set-up a conference bridge for up to 20 telephone numbers. This feature is useful as an emergency line or for recurring team meetings. Instant Group Call can also be used in conjunction with Push to Talk to simulate paging functionality.
24/09/2010 - Hosted PBX Provider UniVoIP is Extending Free Phone Offer to All Businesses in Southern California
For
a limited time UniVoIP is giving
away free phones to all organizations that sign up for a calling plan through their
hosted PBX system. UniVoIP calling plans offer unlimited free inbound and intra-office
calls and outbound domestic calls are only $0.02 per minute with unlimited calling
plans available.
An enterprise class phone system with no hardware to buy - A hosted PBX system connects all employees to each other and to clients, no matter where they are. Main office, home offices, satellite offices, mobile workers and even international offices can all be accessible through a single phone number. With UniVoIP hosted PBX all that is needed is one phone per employee and a dedicated point-to-point connection or an Internet connection – with no equipment to purchase or manage except the phones.
Unlimited and free support - Although the phones truly are plug and play all the built-in features sometimes require some help. That is why clients appreciate UniVoIP – as they don’t just mail the phones and leave it up to the user to figure out how to use them but rather have trained technicians come to the clients place of business and install the business VoIP phones and train the end users on how they work. UniVoIP provide the level of service expected from a phone company – one company delivers the system, the connection and provides all technical support - 7 days a week.
Calls are not routed over the internet - There is a common misconception that all business VoIP systems connects calls exclusively through the Internet, and that scares business owners that are dependent on good and consistent voice quality. Although all VoIP systems can be routed that way and it is very convenient for remote workers or small branch offices that needs to be connected, it is usually recommend to use a secure T1 connection for the main office and to make things even easier UniVoIP also provide that as a service making them the only communications provider needed - one company that is responsible for that “lines are open” both for calling and internet usage.
One Vendor and One Bill - Multiple vendors are required to deliver traditional business phone services (the phone system provider, the maintenance company, the long-distance service provider, the local phone lines provider, and the Internet service provider). With UniVoIP, there is only one vendor – and one bill – for all of these services.
A reliable business phone system - Small business PBX solutions are as reliable, easy to use and robust as traditional business phone systems but they offer many more features at a lower cost – and with less headaches!
Simplicity - customers are not dealing with a huge, infrastructure-laden telecommunications company with hundreds of thousands of miles of copper wire, massive phone switches, and central offices to maintain. Hosted PBX services are delivered over the Internet OR other private connection.
None to minimal capital expenditure - There is no customer premise-based equipment to buy, and with UniVoIP, even the VoIP phones, any required routers, and all set-up fees can be rolled into one low monthly lease.
Free long-distance - Long-distance charges between office locations are completely free and international rates are extremely low.
Advanced PBX features and no technician fees - When users need to add, move, or remove a phone or an employee from the phone system – or when it’s time to update an auto-attendant recording or add a new feature – they do not need to pay for a technician to visit.
Experienced management - All senior management have a long history in the telecommunications business and have experience on what makes a successful phone service provider and that is a commitment to not only technology but to support and customer service.
Free phones available with 36 month calling plan contract and not available with any other offer.
16/07/2010 - Vopium Offer 15 Minutes of Free International Calls
So
far, keeping in touch with friends and family has been a costly affair when being
away on holiday. However, with a Vopium software application downloaded directly to
your mobile phone, cheap calls can be made to e.g. Thailand, Spain or Turkey. Moreover,
you get the first 15 minutes free of charge.
Receiving a high mobile phone bill is always an unpleasant experience, and especially sky-high prices on international mobile calls can make a quick ending to a conversation. A call from a mobile phone in the UK to e.g. a hotel in Turkey costs about £1 per minute. But a new software application for mobile phones called Vopium makes it easy to make cheap international calls. A phone call from the UK to a fixed line or mobile phone in Thailand only costs 2 pence plus the local UK mobile rate – that is roughly the same price as calling from London to Birmingham.
Now, Vopium offers everyone who wants to call family and friends abroad to test the software on their mobile phone for 15 minutes free of charge. All you need to do, is to enter your mobile number on vopium.com.
Free or very cheap international calls from abroad
When being abroad, you can also make cheap calls home with Vopium. You can either make the call from your PC, Wi-Fi mobile phone or by using Vopium’s web-based Call Back service, where you enter a local phone number and the number of the person at home, you wish to talk to.
The reason why it is so cheap to make international calls with Vopium is that you make a ‘normal’ call from your mobile phone to the nearest telephone pole. Thereafter, the call is transmitted by the Internet very cheaply to the receiver. The quality of the call is on par with what people are used to when making international calls, i.e. no cuts or disconnections and a good sound quality.
Besides international calls and texts, Vopium offers its users free calls to each other and the ability to communicate with friends on Skype, GTalk, MSN, Twitter, Facebook, etc., directly from their mobile phones.
Vopium can be downloaded to more than 900 different mobile phones.
01/07/2010 - Rebtel Announces Free Calling to the U.S. on the 4th of July
"We know it's important to stay in touch with your friends or loved ones without paying too much and that is why Rebtel was founded. Its vision was to replace fraudulent calling cards, cumbersome computer calling, and operators' expensive international calling plans with the world's first genuinely good, honest, trustworthy, and easy-to-use global international calling service.
The company's mission was equally simple and straightforward: Make reliable, high-quality international calling extremely cheap or free worldwide.
Unlike Skype, which requires international calls to be made over Wi-Fi, a fixed Internet connection, or a $99 per month Verizon plan, Rebtel works with any phone landline, feature phone, or smart phone.
Today, millions of people around the world use Rebtel every day to call family at home.
How Rebtel works
Rebtel gives people local phone numbers where they're living that connect them directly with their loved ones or work colleagues abroad.

10/02/2010 - Digium Announces the Extreme Phone Makeover Contest
Digium announces
the Extreme Phone Makeover
contest, allowing businesses to nominate their company for a complete VoIP phone
system transformation. By telling their story about why they need a new phone system,
the most deserving business will win an Extreme Phone Makeover valued up to $10,000.
The winner will receive Digium’s innovative Switchvox Unified Communications system
and Polycom phones.
The contest was inspired by Huntsville Flight Center, whose communications system was so outdated that it was impacting their ability to service customers in a timely manner. API Digital, an authorized Digium reseller, assisted with the network assessment and installation. As part of its Extreme Phone Makeover, their phone system was upgraded to Digium's Switchvox SMB, the full-featured and cost-effective VoIP Unified Communications solution designed for small- to mid-sized businesses, and all phones were upgraded to Polycom IP phones.
“Providing a high level of customer service is important to our company, but it had become a challenge to manage incoming customer calls with our ancient phone system,” said Tim Thomas, general manager of Huntsville Flight Center. “We are honored to be the first recipient of Digium’s Extreme Phone Makeover. By integrating phone, fax and conferencing, our office is much more productive, and we can focus more attention on our customers. Our business now runs more smoothly and it’s much easier to manage the Switchvox Unified Communications system and Polycom phones.”
Due to the project’s success, Digium created the Extreme Phone Makeover contest to assist companies who need to improve their business communications. Watch the video of Huntsville Flight Center’s Extreme Phone Makeover and enter to win at www.extremephonemakeover.com.
“In a weak economy, many small- to mid-sized businesses with outdated technology believe they can’t afford a complete phone system overhaul. As a result, they lack the advanced communications features that can make them more efficient and give them a competitive edge,” said Tristan Barnum, director of Switchvox product marketing for Digium. “Our contest will highlight that companies can have an enterprise class phone system at a price they can afford. We look forward to helping other small businesses save money and improve their productivity with Switchvox.”

11/06/2009 - Speakeasy Campaign to Show Customers How to Save by Switching to VoIP
In addition to price, advantages of VoIP include increased productivity, improved competitiveness and enhanced functionality. Yet several misconceptions have prevented companies from making the switch:
Myth #1: It's not really going to save much money. Businesses tend to underestimate just how much money they'll save by switching to VoIP - up to 45 percent over traditional phone service. In addition to saving on national and international long distance, companies with Speakeasy's hosted service can significantly reduce costs associated with moving, adding or changing employee phone lines - costs that have historically made up approximately 30 percent of traditional phone bills. Because there is no on-site phone system, businesses can also eliminate costly maintenance fees.
Myth #2: It's too much of a hassle to set up and manage. Speakeasy offers both hosted and integrated voice services. With hosted systems, there is no PBX hardware on site, and therefore nothing for the business to manage. For companies opting for integrated services, they can use their existing phones and PBX, and Speakeasy simply adds its voice over IP lines or trunks to their pre-existing on site phone system. Both allow businesses to realize significant cost savings with minimal set-up hassle and maximum flexibility. In addition, Speakeasy's solution allows small business to take advantage of features usually found only in more expensive systems, such as automated attendant, hunt group and call center routing.
Myth #3: Call clarity is inferior to traditional phone quality. The reality is, not all voice traffic is created equal. Broadband quality directly influences voice quality, with marked differences between consumer-grade broadband and business-class connectivity. Speakeasy provides business-class, voice-optimized broadband, which eliminates data interference when using data and voice on a single line. Prioritizing voice traffic over all other data ensures the highest quality possible.
Myth #4: The technology is still too new. According to Forrester Research, many businesses are still afraid of what they do not know, including how services work, voice quality and how much bandwidth they will consume with VoIP. Yet VoIP has been around since the mid-90s and has come a long way since in terms of technological advances and adoption rate by businesses. In fact, Dell'Oro Group, a marketing research firm, predicted that IP lines will grow to almost 60 percent of small business line shipments by the year 2011, while digital and analog shipments are expected to decline at an average of 10 percent per year. Traditional systems are expected to fair even worse, declining to less than 5 percent of the total market by 2011.
Myth #5: VoIP is just a large business solution and is not necessary for SMBs. According to Forrester Research, 52 percent of small businesses say that providing more mobility for employees is a priority. VoIP offers features unavailable through traditional phone systems that increase mobility, such as Speakeasy's Remote Worker, which allows an individual to use their office phone number and features, including four digit calling and number identification, whether they temporarily work from a client's office, their home or using their cell phone. Other VoIP-specific features, like Find Me/Follow Me, allow employees and customers to route calls made to their office number based on a flexible user-defined set of rules. VoIP technology levels the competitive playing field and provides small businesses the features to provide better customer service, lower operational costs, and deliver more business flexibility to expand and contract according to business needs. VoIP is especially necessary in future-proofing small businesses to avoid being hamstrung by outdated technology.
