Network technology vendor Dialogic (Nasdaq: DLGC) today announced the latest iteration of its media processing engine, the first in its line to incorporate a distributed architecture.

The company said PowerMedia HMP 5.0 will allow enterprise and service provider customers to build cloud-based HD voice and video solutions in both Linux and Windows.

Dialogic said the growth of IP networks and cloud computing has created increasing demand for distributed software-based media processing, which it sees as a key for solution and service providers looking for efficiency and innovation.

Version 5.0 delivers expanded multimedia processing and deployment options with the ability to scale up to 5,000 simultaneous SIP connections or 1,500 voice sessions, Dialogic said.

HMP 5.0 enables HD voice and video play/record, conferencing, multimedia streaming, transcoding, automated interactive audio and video solutions (IVR and IVVR) and high-end live interaction applications, such as contact centers and video portals. It also, said the company, enhances video quality through improved bit-rate control, supports virtualization and runs on general-purpose servers without the need for specialized hardware.
