iPhone 4 FaceTime jumps the gun on Skype

The science fiction world has been dreaming of it for a long time and it has finally arrived: a video voice call communicator in the palm of your hand. We thought Skype would probably be bringing it to us, but in the end Apple being the end-to-end experience provider that they are developed their own video VoIP software for their newest mobile phone, the iPhone 4.

Prior to launch, the Internet was a-tweet with chatter that the new iPhone would feature a Skype video conferencing application right on the heels of the company's 3G calling app for the regular iPhone. It came as a surprise when the video conferencing software ended up being an in-house creation from Apple called FaceTime.

Reviewers have stated that Skype doesn't have too much to fear at the moment as iPhone 4 is just starting to grow its user base and the front facing camera needed to take advantage of a video conferencing application is still absent on most phones. Additionally, FaceTime only works over WiFi at the moment.
