According to a report in the Financial Times, private equity firm The Gores Group may be courting Polycom to merge with Siemens Enterprise Communications. The private equity group owns a 51 percent stake in Siemens Enterprise. The report noted that Polycom is the only major publicly own videoconferencing company left after Cisco acquireed TANDBERG.

The Financial Times report claims that another private equity group Apax was in talks about buying Polycom, but the talks dissolved when the group failed to make an offer. When word of the talks got around, Gores sent a note to Polycom addressing the idea of merging with Siemens Enterprise Communications.

Polycom has been signing partnership deals for videoconferencing and interoperability (including one with Siemens) in order to combat the recent consolidation of its competitors.
