Converged voice and data services are getting some focus at Mobile World Congress this week and iBasis made an announcement to add to the buzz. The company launched their IP Exchange (IPX) network which will enable both fixed and mobile operators to support voice, data and signalling over a single IP connection. The offering will allow network operators to efficiently launch converged voice and data over a managed IP backbone with built in security and QoS.

John van Vianen, iBasis CEO, in the release said: "The IPX solution we are providing today addresses the immediate demand for a more efficient international interconnect and transport solution for voice and data, while facilitating operators' longer term service and architecture strategies, including LTE." As mobile VoIP becomes more of a reality--particularly with the move to 4G--converged voice and data networks will grow in importance.
