Wouldn't mind getting calls from long lost friends on Facebook, but don't want to give out your phone number to your other 300 so-called friends? Well, 8x8's VoIP service has added a feature for customers to make this possibility a reality.
8x8's Facebook app adds a 'Call Me' button to users' profiles and when it is clicked, a caller enters their own phone number to start the call. The application calls the caller's phone and then connects it to the user's preferred number on the 8x8 system. The user's number remains private as the call is connected through the 8x8 service.
Although the service sounds like a consumer play, the focus is actually on 8x8's small business users who use the Virtual Office System and have recently set-up Facebook pages for their businesses. The 'Call me' button will make it that much easier for customers to connect with businesses through their preferred online methods.
